Monday Musings: What Are the Odds?

On Saturday we had brunch at my parents home. As were leaving, we were discussing our need for graph paper for Lil D. He likes to write out sports statistics; they are usually for make-believe teams made up of friends and family.

As we were dressing ourselves for the outdoors, my mom disappeared upstairs. She returned a few moments later with this.

Do you remember these?

Does it look familiar? It’s a ledger book from the dark ages.

You should have seen Lil D’s face. It could be one of the best gifts he’s received EVER.

He immediately began entering his fictional team’s stats when we got home (cause I wouldn’t let him do it in the car).

And then he went to the Ottawa 67’s hockey game yesterday. He got a free pack of 67’s hockey cards. He got home and began copying into his ledger.

Last evening, we had to take it away and put Lil D in his room after he punched Derek in the face when he told him it was time to put it away and go have a bath. Ah – the joys of parenting.

4 a.m. this morning:

Lil C wakes up coughing. He wants “a cuddle”.

4:03 am this morning:

Lil D wakes up coughing. He wants to know why most of the players in the NBA are brown. I think he was trying to calculate his chances of making it some day.

If you do an ‘archeological dig’ at Business Depot, you’ll find that they still have these ledgers in stock! I have no idea who still uses them. This justifies to your father why I keep ‘stuff’…..you never know when something might come in useful. Big smiles from grandchildren are the best!

How adorable is it that he records stats! So cute.
Does Daddy talk stats a lot? I can totally see little E doing this some day because Hubby is a huge sports fan. He currently goes around the house practicing his “deeking”, sometimes without a stick in hand. People ask, “what is he doing”? as he dodges side to side? “Oh, he’s just deeking” I say. Haha

Yes Alicia, dad is a huge sports fan. We have those mags full of hockey and basketball stats all over the house.

Cute about the deeking! We have more of a basketball sideways shuffle going on around, though they do love playing hockey.

My oldest son does that too! He has pages all over the house with detailed numbers and “scores” from imagined races and contests. Glad to hear it’s normal!

Got those papers everywhere too. Yesterday I had to gather a few up cause he wanted to do a summary (my word, not his).
