A Saturday in December

I am tired. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying.

8 am – 12 km run (easy and fun intervals). I didn’t know how far I had gone, but used mapmyrun.com to get a pretty good approximation. If I’m going to attempt this Ottawa winter running, I need warmer running gloves and hat, new running shoes, and a new running jacket. Derek, don’t worry, I’ll get them myself. This is not a hint.

Question: Runners, what do you put on your face before a run in the winter? My skin was not happy with me during and after the run and I think one winter of this might make me look 10 years older. Should I just be slathering on the moisturizer before I go out, or do I need something stronger?

11:00 am – haircuts for the boys

12:00 lunch at John’s (got a big bucket of John’s coleslaw to serve at this afternoon’s event)

13:30 – 15:00 prepare for 20 adults and 10 children coming for afternoon Hannukah Party (including early dinner or late lunch depending on your lifestyle)

15:00 – 6:00 Eat, drink, serve, clean, entertain, and work the room.

18:00-19:00 Clean

19:00 Put Lil C to bed

19:30- 20:00 Clean some more

20:00 – 21:00: A little work for the family business

21:00 Write this post and now I’m hitting the hay. Early swimming lessons and then two parties to hit tomorrow.

Oil of Olay! I know I know…it’s for ‘older’ women, but the stuff is thick and very moisturizy. I slather that on before a cold run.
As for gear, suggestions: get winterized running tights that have the wind panel on the front; lightweight mitts (not gloves), Icebreaker anything for your top (great product), Icebreaker also has great winter running socks (buy 3 get a pair free at Bushtukah right now), SmartWool also has great running socks, balaclava essential, great running jacket that has a thermal aspect to it (check out the cross country ski section). Bushtukah has it all, and it is in the ‘hood.

Happy running. I knocked off 18k this morning at 7:30 a.m.!

    Julie

    Hi,

Keihl’s makes a good product called All-Sport Non Freeze Face Protector. It also has an SPF of 30. It’s good for running, skiing or any outdoor activities in the winter.

Hi Delanie – Thanks for your comment.

I’m gonna get me some of that Kiehl’s product this week! Sounds perfect. And maybe I’ll test it against the Oil of Olay Julie suggested and report back on my findings.

Good old fashioned vaseline does the trick if you are stuck. Good for you…I need to get back into the groove of running but I have never been a fan of running in the cold weather.

Okay – vaseline. I think a layer of that over face cream might be good on super windy days. I need to get some of this too.

You know what really got me back into running – good tunes. They make me run fast (for me of course).

I was going to say vaseline as well. I use it on my face for really windy or cold days. It keeps the wind off a bit. I’m all about the layers for winter running.
